Allied Bakeries, Silver Spoon and Jordans & Ryvita manufacture some of the UKs most loved products and we are now running an engineering programme for electrical, mechanical and chemical engineering students. The Engineering function plays a critical role in all of these businesses in keeping the whole operation running smoothly to manufacture these quality products efficiently, safely and ensure delivery on time to our customers.Engineering in our business is different to most engineering schemes as you will be one of only a couple of engineering graduates and be able to really make a difference. You will have the opportunity to get really involved with the projects and experience the pace and change that we have going on within our businesses at the moment. We are looking for people who have a real passion for engineering and want to understand how the different strands of engineering impact the workplace. Our graduate programme is designed to develop our future leaders who will lead maintenance and capital project teams in our business. We would expect you to come off our programme into a Engineering Manager position but our commitment to you goes beyond the 2 year graduate scheme as we see this as the first step in your on-going career within engineering at ABF and to reach Site Engineering Manager within a further 4 years. The programme has been designed to give you practical hands on experience coupled with the engineering management and leadership skills required to be a senior manager in a dynamic highly demanding industry.Over the 18 months you will work in our factories where you will gain experience of production, learning about the processes and machinery, spend time on the production line, solve product line breakdown problems as well as on-going maintenance. You will also gain experience by working in the following areas: Specifying and installing equipment Developing and applying maintenance techniques Leading teams of engineering technicians Interfacing with all functions across the business at all levelsWe will be offering you the opportunity to become a Chartered Engineer on our programme and you will go through an intensive training program to develop your practical technical engineering skills; which will be both through formal training courses and then putting those skills into practice when in the Bakery and also on the job where you will work within a site maintenance engineering team.
