Provide a first class experience for all its visitors and at the same time further understanding and respect for animals. Through visitor's funds, Colchester Zoo undertakes breeding programmes for endangered species and funds in situ projects in the wild.
Student Placements on Animal Sections These work experience placements are designed to offer the experience of working in an outstanding zoo environment as an Assistant Keeper. They are for people enrolled on animal care courses who have some previous experience caring for animals in other environments. Applicants must be aged 17 or older at the time of placement. Work experience student placements are full time, for five days per week for a minimum of four consecutive weeks. We do not accept work experience students for shorter amounts of time. This is to provide a realistic idea of the intense physical demands of the role. The placements will include some weekend days. Unfortunately Colchester Zoo is unable to assist in any travel or accommodation expenses, and no payment is associated with these roles. Places available are limited and each place is offered subject to an application process. Placements are granted following an application and a successful interview.
